The Hit on Miller - Part II

Seems as though Ryan Miller is in the NHL news as often as the drama-filled Washington Capitals these days and it isn't for Vezina calibre play.

In the most recent instalment of "Let's Run Over Ryan Miller Like a Mack Truck", Jordin Tootoo graciously took on the role of villain.

My views on the incident...

  • Christian Ehrhoff nudged Tootoo as he drove the net. I don't think from the position Ehrhoff was in that he had enough leverage to really push him into his goaltender
  • Jordin Tootoo drove the net - isn't that we constantly clamour forwards to do with consistency ?
  • It is conceivable that Tootoo tried to avoid Miller by taking off in mid air with probably the most feeble attempt to look like superman that I have seen
  • It is conceivable that Tootoo did not try to avoid Miller at all
  • Miller is hyper-sensitive to being hit following the first instalment of "Let's Run Over Ryan Miller Like a Mack Truck" featuring Milan Lucic
  • The Sabres finally showed some balls and stood up for their star goaltender within seconds of the hit rather than standing around like a bunch of bozos and responding weeks later
  • Ryan Miller can throw some pretty good punches
  • The call on the ice was appropriate with a 5 minute major and a game misconduct
  • Lindy Ruff really does not like Jordin Tootoo, Jordin Tootoo
  • Brendan Shanahan appears to have no choice but to suspended Tootoo for the hit or else Lindy Ruff's jugular vein might explode
  • If Brendan Shanahan suspends Jordin Tootoo a precedent will be set. Forwards may drive the net even less than they do now in fear of supplemental discipline
  • I think 5 minutes and a game misconduct was sufficient.
  • If you start assessing supplemental discipline for goalie interference it becomes a very slippery slope and I am not sure the NHL or Shanahan want to open themselves up to that and all the scrutiny that will come with assessing what goalie interference merits a suspension and what does not
  • Stand up for your goalie on the ice with some sort of response - physical retribution, which in my mind would be permitted by referees following such a hit, and capitalize on your chance to score on the power play and win the damn game
  • No SD for JT
